2010 Theme — Furry State Fair
The state fair is a quintessential part of American heritage. It's where rural meets urban, food is sold on a stick, and carnival rides fill the air with screams of excitement. Many people encounter farm animals for the first time at the state fair. I milked a cow at my first state fair, and was able to help feed a few hogs.
It's this connection to the pastoral that Morphicon 2010 : State Fair is about celebrating. With a deep appreciation for those people in our society that work with animals on a daily basis. Not to mention the thrill of an exciting ride, the taste of sickeningly sweet, always deep fried food, as well as the companionship of enjoying all that with others.
Charity
Morphicon is again proud to sponsor the Ferrets Unlimited Rescue Services (FURS). 100% of all proceeds from the pet auction, silent charity auction, and ticket raffle go directly to them after each convention. Last year we were able to raise $1,400 for FURS through the generous donations of our attendees.
The FURS group has a table in the factory square every year providing information, and selling small items to support the shelter. Please stop by and make them feel welcome during the convention. If you'd like to donate to their cause, simply visit the
Ferrets Unlimited website.
Guests of Honor
Morphicon is proud to announce that our Guests of Honor for this year will be the creators of the
World Tree roleplaying system,
Floki and
Bumblebee. We're thrilled to have these two talented, creative artists as our Guests of Honor for this year.
Floki
Bard Bloom (Floki) logged on to FurryMUCK in 1992 on a whim, and he and his wife Vicki have been active in the furry community ever since. Their joint project
The World Tree Role-Playing Game is set in a civilized world inhabited by eight furry species and no humans. Since every good adventure game needs a coordinating romance novel for the bookshelf, Bard wrote
A Marriage of Insects, a story of love and clashing cultures among the three-sexed cricketmorphic Herethroy of the World Tree.
Bard also writes the slice-of-life serial drama
Sythyry's Journal and
Sythyry's Vacation, the diary of a World Tree Zi Ri, a tiny immortal blue dragon whose spends zir life adventuring, supporting those who choose to love other species, protecting cities from zir good friend and terrible monster Vae, and otherwise collecting all sorts of Doom.
Bard and Vicki have some other projects. The main one is Rhys, currently age six, who is upholding the family traditions of furrydom and creativity. They have also produced the
Crowdsource Tarot, a divination deck inspired by words suggested by their friends.
Bumblebee
Victoria Borah Bloom (Bumblebee) became part of the furry fandom about 15 years ago when her future husband Bard went on a business trip and left her the keys to the Internet unattended. Although she prides herself in her identity as a dabbler in all kinds of stuff, Vicki is probably best known as the co-creator, art director, and world consistency guru of the role playing game World Tree. She personally cannot draw a straight line with a ruler, but has managed to continue to employ furry artists through projects like her kids' clothing line Little Pagans and her incense supply shop Mother's Hearth.
Vicki was one of the early popularizers of the full body spandex style of costuming in the community, because it's really hard to GM a tabletop game in a fursuit. She keeps snakes in her living room and about fifty thousand bees in the backyard, yet somehow still manages to get people to visit her.
Vicki spends the bulk of her time raising her six year old son, known in the fandom as Mothra, who as of this writing expects to attend the con as a bee-dragon-ladybug-tiger-fairy. Vicki's other recent projects include the tough-love
Crowdsource Tarot and an as-yet-unnamed line of animal inspired perfumes.
